Introduction

During my preparations for priestly ordination, I was overwhelmed by a thought that remained a landmark for my whole reflection on my past life. This thought was about my family and how vital it has been in my journey to priesthood. I looked at my immediate family and realized that the soil has most of it. We were born 10 in the family and now we are five without parents. I looked around and came to a default realization that although we are that few the family as understood in the African context is still large “ as the proverb goes pafwa bantu pashala bantu (Not all die at once). My resolution was to hunt for the rest of the extended family. I set out to look for those who are in Diaspora. One thing I still appreciate about my late mum is that she was a shepherd who could gather those who were far and bring them home. We got used to being more than 15 at home because of her heart. Most of these were my cousins from my mother's side.
Perhaps you may ask, which family had I to look for? It was the family of my mum. My mother was a Bemba and Bembas by default are matrilineal. As such the children are the mother's children. We belong to our mother. My father was a Mambwe, a small tribe also in the Northern part of Zambia. Let me confess that I have never been to the home place of my father and do not know most of my Father's family.
I write this family tree not for myself but for those who are going to remain after me - generations to come that they may know that they are not in isolation, but that they have the whole family around them.

  1. What I have lived for

    Three passions have occupied my mortal life - the passion for knowledge, the passion for love and the passion for life. The first one I have sought with all my heart, I have searched and tried my best to use the shoulders of giants. However, I have not exhausted my search for knowledge and will continue to do so. The second has overwhelmed by mortal being and led me to the discovery that it is the best business one can venture into. The last has been of compassion for human life and living to preserve it.

    God protects you; He holds the key to your life.

    God has some plans for you,
    some small, some big, some grand.
    God guides you,
    with a brilliant shining light.
    God watches over you
    through morning, noon, and night.
    God is always there for you,
    to aid you in times of woe.
    God tries hard to help you
    see, and learn, and grow.
    God has much faith in you;
    there's nothing you can't achieve.
    God encourages you
    to try, to think, to believe.
    God will always love you,
    and he hopes you'll love him too.
    God lends a shoulder,
    to calm, support, and soothe.
    God will wait for you;
    he'll be there in the end.
    God will welcome you,
    because he's your friend.
